The New Fairfield Free Public Library announced today that it is the recipient of a $1,500 grant from the Robert G. and Marguerite M. Derx Foundation. Over the coming months, the Derx grant will be used to present an eclectic lineup of wellness programs to the community of New Fairfield. This series will address the wellness of the mind, body and soul of adults.
“We are excited to present this fun, educational series of wellness programs to adults in our community. We realize that, without support from the Derx Foundation, we would be unable to do so,” said Library Director, Linda Fox.
Scheduled programs include:
Zumba Class -- March 15, 6:30 p.m. – Presented by Cindy Madureira.
Sleep – Mar. 24, 6 p.m. -- In this lecture, Dr. Kenneth Hoffman, DACM, Medical Director of SOPHIA Natural Health Center in Brookfield, will cover the three natural solutions to sleep problems: vitamins, exercise and physical treatment. There are treatable reasons for sleep problems and sleeping pills only mask the real cause. Find out how you can get some sleep!
Nutrition – Mar. 29, 6:30 p.m. - Nutritionist, Francyne Gioffre Peatt, will discuss a wellness approach to eating healthy and ensuring a successful FAT loss.
Painting Class – March 31, 6 p.m. –- Join the library for a fun evening of painting, led by an experienced instructor from Artrageous of Danbury. Participants will paint the same design, in their own unique and creative way. Artrageous supplies the easels, canvas, paints, brushes and aprons. Each participant will walk away with their own masterpiece to display at home.
Spiritual Medium –- Apr. 21, 6 p.m. -- Spiritual Medium, Maura Geist, returns to convey messages of comfort and healing from loved ones who have passed. Not everyone will be guaranteed a reading.
Cooking Class –- Apr. 24, 6 p.m. -- Participants will learn how to make deliciously simple recipes as Culinary Chef, Stefan Fraundorfer presents a cooking demonstration and sampling of seasonal foods.
Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine: Health for Life –- Apr. 28, 6 p.m. -- SOPHIA Natural Health Center of Brookfield will discuss the oldest medical system in the world and how you can restore health naturally and successfully. It describes the different diagnosis methods such as tongue, pulse, and palpation as well as the use of all the tools of Chinese medicine including acupuncture, massage, and herbal medicine.
Decluttering with Deidre -- May 10, 6:30 p.m. -- Whether it’s downsizing from a large home to a small apartment or moving cross-country, beginning the process of organizing, packing, discarding, donating, and endless other clean up tasks can feel like a major challenge. Join Deirdre Dolan Nesline, owner of DeClutter by Deirdre, for tips on how to put a positive focus on this major task, how to recognize “Clutter Blindness” spots, and how to let go, sort, and get rid of items that are no longer necessary.
Women’s Health and Hormones – May 19, 6 p.m. --In this lecture, Dr. Kenneth Hoffman, DACM, Medical Director of SOPHIA Natural Health Center in Brookfield, will speak about holistic approaches and natural alternatives to women’s health. Concerns such as hormone imbalances, menopause, osteoporosis, heart and breast health, weight loss, and stress will be covered. Come prepared for a lively discussion, questions and answers!
Makeup Demonstration –- TBA, -- Clinique makeup artist, Denise Moore, will teach the latest techniques for women at the New Fairfield Free Public Library. Moore, an artist at the Clinique counter at Lord & Taylor in the Danbury Fair Mall, will teach skin care & proper makeup techniques including: a flawless smoky eye application, winged liner, contouring, etc. Each participant will be provided the tools & products to try the techniques on themselves and will go home with goodie bags, literature and a better understanding of skincare and the confidence boost needed to achieve flawless skin and makeup perfection for the event at hand and beyond.
