Summer Reading Program

   It’s hard to believe that the Summer Reading Program has come to an end.  The time just flew by so quickly.  There were 420 participants from Birth through Twelfth Grade, including our satellite program with Bright Beginnings.  There were 4,890 books read.  Congratulations to all the participants!

   We would like to thank everyone who donated prizes for our program. The incentives make such a difference in the success of the program.  We were fortunate to have the following donors:  Beardsley Zoo, Bridgeport Blue Fish, Bright Beginnings, Cheesecake Factory, Peggy Corbett, Danbury Ice Arena, Friends of the Library, Lucille Horkan, Pam Marshall, Pawtucket Red Sox, Rosemary Peck, Liz Pepin, Sarah Marsh, Debra Salvato, Stana’s Critters, Stepping Stones Museum, and the Yard Goats.

Adult Programs

   Friday Night Crafting Club, 6-8 pm.  Bring your project to the Library and take some time for yourself with fellow crafters.  This informal group meets in the Library’s lower level and requires no registration.

   Genealogy, Weds., Sept. 20, 6:45-7:30 pm. Karen Keeler will be available to assist you with your ancestry search.  This group will meet in the Library’s Program Room.  Registration opens Sept. 6th.

   A Pleasant Pairing, Friday, Sept. 22, 6:30 pm.  Kim Larkin of Klassic Kreations presents an educational talk highlighting the history and health benefits of tea and dark chocolate with insights from her chocolatier background.  The program includes samplings of tea, tea infused foods, various chocolates, trivia, poetry, antique teapots and more.  Registration opens Sept. 8th.

   Learn to Knit, Friday, Sept. 29, 6 pm.  Have you ever wanted to learn how to knit?  Or perhaps your skills got a bit rusty and you are in need of a refresher course to get knitting again.  This class is a perfect fit.  In this class, you will learn how to knit, purl, cast on and bind off.  We will cover the basics and start you on your journey to mastering knitting.  Participants need to bring one skein of worsted weight yarn such as Caron Cakes, Caron Simply Soft or any other brand in worsted weight and two knitting needles US Size 8/5mm.  Registration opens Sept. 15th.

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month!

   Programs for Children

   Wee Ones, Mondays, 10:30-11 am.  Stories, music and movement with Ms. Janet for children ages 12-23 months. Session begins Sept. 11.  Registration opens Aug. 28th.

   Tales for Twos, Tuesdays, 10:30-11 am.  Stories, music and crafts with Ms. Janet for children ages 24-35 months.  Session begins Sept. 5th.  Registration opened August 22nd.  

   More Stories Please, Weds., 1:30-2 pm. pm.  Stories and a craft with Ms. JoAnn for children ages three to five.  Session begins Sept. 6th.  Registration opened Aug. 23rd.

   Drop-In Storytime/Stay and Play, Thursdays, 10:30-11am.  Stories, music and movement for all ages with Ms. JoAnn every Thursday unless school is closed.  No registration is required. 

    First Saturday Storytime, Sept. 9, 11-11:30 am.  Children of all ages can join kindergarten teacher, Ms. Hannan, for stories and fun!  Registration opened Aug. 20.

    New Fairfield Day, Saturday, Sept. 16, 11 am--2 pm.  The first 50 families that visit the Children’s Library during that time period will receive a free copy of Harold and the Purple Crayon.

   Circle Time with Sukey Molloy, Weds., Sept. 27, 10:30 am.  Join Sukey Molloy for sing along fun with her award-winning songs and age appropriate activities to stimulate learning in the developing years!  Circle Time classes are for children ages birth to five years old with a caregiver.  Registration opens Sept. 13th and space is limited.
