Town Tribune Library Column -- December 7, 2017

posted Dec 3, 2017, 11:30 AM by NF Library

Over the river and through the woods can be a long and tedious journey without something to occupy everyone in the car over the upcoming holidays.  Hanukkah runs from December 12th-20th and then the Christmas holidays follow after that.  Why not consider listening to books while on your trip?  The Library has a wide variety of titles from which to choose in both departments.  Stop by and pick up something that will make that journey a little less painful and filled with interesting stories sure to generate some discussion.

Gingerbread House

If you didn’t come to the Library the weekend when Santa was visiting, come to the Children’s Library and visit the life-sized Gingerbread House.  It will only be here through the holidays and is truly a sight to behold living with all the fictional stories surrounding it.

Elf on the Shelf, December 1-December 22nd.  Come find the elf on our shelves! Visit the Children’s Library between Dec. 1st and Dec. 22nd and see if you can find where our elf, Elliot, is hiding.  He’s back from the North Pole and excited to see all the children.  When checking out your books, whisper to a staff member where you found him and receive a prize!

Toys for Tots

The Library has two Toys for Tots drop off boxes located in the Adult and Children’s departments.  The boxes will be here until December 18.  All donations will be greatly appreciated.

Giving Tree

Help decorate the Library’s Giving Tree with new mittens, hats, gloves and scarves.  All items collected will be donated to New Fairfield Social Services.  Donations will be accepted until December 15th.

Adult Programs

Friday Night Crafting Club, 6-8 pm.  Bring your project to the Library and take some time for yourself with fellow crafters.  This informal group meets in the Library’s lower level and requires no registration.

Friends of the Library Cookie Walk, Saturday, Dec. 9, 10 am until the cookies are gone!  The Friends of the Library will be holding their annual Cookie Walk in the Library’s Community Room.  Take a walk around the tables and make your selections from the home-baked cookies on display.  Cookie boxes will sell for $6.00 each. While shopping for your favorite cookies, don’t forget to take a look at the two raffle prizes.  One is a gingerbread house and the other is a holiday basket with an eclectic mix of baking items and snacks.  Raffle tickets are $1.00 each or six for $5.00.  All proceeds will benefit the Library.
