Summer Reading is Almost Here!

School isn’t quite out for the summer yet but we have been planning for our Summer Reading Program for quite some time now.  Don’t let the summer slide take over!  Our program that runs from June 24 to August 2nd is very easy and even non-readers may participate.  We have two programs:  Birth through 5th Grade and 6th through 12th Grades.  The children in the younger group may read or be read to for one hour and then get rewarded with a raffle ticket toward a table full of prizes that change weekly.  The older group just needs to read a book for a ticket toward prizes and, yes, skinny books are no problem as long as they are an appropriate reading level for that student.

Summer Reading Donations!

Speaking of prizes…even though the Friends of the Library generously subsidize this yearly program, we can always use more prizes as an incentive to promote reading.  We would be greatly appreciative if anyone would like to donate new items or gift cards for the weekly drawings.  Please stop by the Children’s Library or call 312.5682 for more information.

High School Volunteers Needed

In order for us to have a Summer Reading Program, we need high school students to volunteer and run the Reading Desk.  You don’t have to read to anyone if that’s a concern.  Taking information down correctly for a reading log, filing in alphabetical order and smiling at children are the main requirements.  One hour of training is required and students are given community service hours. Our last training session is June 14th. Check our website for the online application or call 312-5682 for more information.

Community Service Club

Thank you to the very generous and supportive members of the Community Service Club for their donation to the Library.  These funds will be used to purchase a Cricut Machine.  We sincerely appreciate all you do for us!
