Town Tribune Library Column -- June 29, 2017

posted Jun 26, 2017, 9:08 AM by NF Library

Holiday Closing

The library will be closed on Tuesday, July 4th only.  We will be open our usual hours on Monday, July 3rd (10 am to 8 pm) and resume normal operating hours on Wednesday,  July 5th.

Interlibrary Loans

The State of Connecticut is temporarily suspending deliveries of interlibrary loan materials from July 3-17.  Please bear this in mind when requesting items.  Technically, the revamped delivery system intends to deliver items in a more timely manner. We are recommending that if you need items quickly, check if a nearby library owns it and physically pick it up yourself until we can determine that the kinks have been worked out of the system.  Thank you for your cooperation and understanding regarding this issue.

Summer Reading Program

The 2017 Summer Reading Program at New Fairfield Free Public Library has begun! Depending upon the age of the child, we have two programs from which to choose.  Birth to Fifth Grade requires reading library materials such as books, magazines, books on cd, Playaways, Bookflix or Launchpads for just one hour in order to receive a raffle ticket for prizes that change weekly.  In the Sixth through Twelfth Grade program, students read an entire library book, book on cd or Playaway in order to receive a raffle ticket for weekly prizes. All personal books may be listed on the Governor’s Reading Challenge log and attached to the library log and sent in together to school in the fall. Our program runs six weeks and ends on August 4th.  Stop by to see what we have to offer and to sign up with our high school volunteers.  These volunteers receive community service time for assisting us with this program.  The Summer Reading Desk hours for this program open at 10 am (except for Fridays when the library opens at 1 pm) and run until one hour before the library closes for the day.  The Summer Reading Desk closes at 2 pm on Saturdays.  Call 312-5682 for more information.
